
Soo-Yean Oh received B.A degree in Music Performance from one of the most prestigious music schools at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, Korea. She studied with Professor Min-Jae Choi and played in the Chung-Ang Orchestra as a concert master. She was awarded a four year full scholarship and graduated with the honor of the valedictorian at the University’s Music Department.
In the United States, she studied music education at the University of Minnesota with professor Young-Nam Kim and participated in the University of Minnesota Symphony under the baton of Conductor Akira Mori.
She moved to Tacoma, WA in 2002 and is under contract with the Federal Way Symphony. Along with playing in the symphony, Ms. Oh has been teaching violin to students for over ten years.
Beyond teaching private lessons, she has been teaching at different institutions in the Tacoma area: Pierce College, as a private instructor; Tacoma Youth Symphony, as a violin coach. She is a Youth Chamber Orchestra Director at Full Gospel Tacoma Church where she organizes weekly service performances, musical events and helps young musicians to pursue musical excellence. She also teaches three classes of highly motivated violin students as part of the school program at Carson Elementary and Parkland Lutheran School.
She has been actively involved in many concerts such as Federal Way Symphony, Federal Way Symphony Chorale, and playing the Tchaikovsky Nutcracker with different local ballet companies.
